MY PROGRAM ISN'T WHAT IT APPEARS TO BE | DAEP UPDATE #3 & #4

*ALL VIEWS ARE MY OWN AND NOT OF THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY, CENTRAL MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY OR YUMMY JOBS*

Hey there, pals!

I finally paid a visit to see the mouse himself. This meant everything to me to see his reaction to what I have achieved. I have big shoes to fill and carry on Walt’s legacy of making his dream a reality. Whatever happens over the next 11 months, I hope to make you, Mickey Mouse, proud and create magic for your Guests.

Magic aside, housing events are on the frontline for this update. I attended my very first one at the end of July. It wasn’t just any housing event, it was a pool party housing event! (my family and any other Marks & Spencer advertisement fans will understand why I worded my words the way I did)

I got to go in the pool for the very first time since I moved to Florida... it sounds shocking. But, the majority of my free time has been spent in the parks making the most of the Cast Member perks! I got to see so many friends who I hadn't seen since my trip to the Casting centre and my Traditions class, so it was really lovely to have a little catch-up to see how they've been getting on in their roles. There was a DJ playing loads of classic party tunes, as well as the request for High School Musical my friend and I put in, in which the entire crowd went absolutely wild! Who cares if I had a 5 am alarm set for the next day to get my Social Security Card? I am making the most of every opportunity on my program, as I know that time will fly by!

I know I am only a month into my program, but I have been starting to realise that the Disney Academic Exchange Program (DAEP) is more than what it appears to be. There are many bloggers out there dedicated to the Disney programs and all of them pretty much paint this perfect canvas of consistent outings, saying that they are loving every second of their program. But, is this true? You do not see people posting about their injuries from kitchen utensils, having bedding sheets disappearing when you ordered them months ago, getting so much fairy beauty sleep that you almost miss your class registration, thinking you have lost your nametag and having to play ‘Chris from Orlando’ until you find it again or obtaining your Social Security Card… Yes, this all happened in the last month! Reality is, the Disney bubble is not completely perfect while you’re on the program. It might be a bullet to the head, but it is something I wish I knew before participating on my DAEP.

I have been having a tough time recently. Fairy school has been quite the adjustment, especially where I am now studying completely independently with my fairy classmates. I have been second-guessing myself a lot and I would be lying to say that I was not nervous to submit my fairy school assignments first time around. Despite second-guessing myself in most of my classes, I am excelling in my pixie dusting classes.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo. May all of my princess's fairytale wishes and dreams forever and always come true. Bibbidi, Bobbidi, Boo!

They say fairy school becomes a family, and I have been noticing that a lot recently, particularly as I am the new kid at school type of person. I hope things will get better in the long run.

I know this week may not have been that exciting with no park outings, but now you know sometimes that's what the DAEP is about... you're constantly at work and you don't have that much time to play in between your shifts (or classes, as a matter of fact). That's definitely the case with my schedule during park operation hours. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoyed reading my post this week. I really am having the adventure of a lifetime (both good and bad) and the photo below really justifies that.

Thank you so much reading and have a magical day!

-Hannah

DISCLAIMER: this blog is my personal experience on the Disney Academic Exchange Program and in no way reflects everyone's experience! Other programs and future participants on the DAEP may have slight adjustments which may not be reflected in my posts. That being said, if you do leave any questions, I will try to answer them as best I can or cover topics in blogposts :)
